STORY OF THE DAY: Ferrari’s 575 GTC Enters the GT Arena

On 1 January 2004, the Ferrari 575 GTC was presented in Frankfurt as a customer competition car derived from the 575M Maranello. The presentation carried no finishing result, but it marked Ferrari’s official response to the growing success of independently developed front-engined GT racers.

The programme promised a modern, factory-sanctioned challenger for international grand-touring competition. Developed with N.Technology, the car combined immediate pace with a demanding development path as customer teams worked to improve tyre use, consistency and long-distance reliability.

The 575 GTC used a front-mounted six-litre V12, a sequential transmission and a substantially revised competition chassis beneath widened composite bodywork. Large aerodynamic surfaces, racing suspension and powerful brakes transformed the production berlinetta, while the rearward transmission location helped preserve balanced weight distribution.

No driver is specifically associated with the Frankfurt presentation. Development belonged to Ferrari Corse Clienti, N.Technology’s engineers and professional test drivers, while customer teams later shaped the model’s competitive identity. The 575 GTC matters as Ferrari’s formal return to contemporary front-engined GT development.
