STORY OF THE DAY: Number 50 Delivers Ferrari’s Second Consecutive Victory

Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen won the 2024 24 Hours of Le Mans in Ferrari 499P number 50. They completed 311 laps in a race repeatedly interrupted by rain and a long safety-car period, giving Ferrari consecutive overall victories at the Circuit de la Sarthe.

The closing hours produced a tense fuel and energy calculation. Nielsen managed the final stint while Toyota applied pressure, and Ferrari brought number 50 home despite an investigation concerning an open door. The winning margin was little more than fourteen seconds after 24 hours.

The 499P combines a carbon-fibre monocoque with a three-litre twin-turbo V6, seven-speed gearbox and front-axle electric motor. The four-wheel-drive hybrid system operates within Le Mans Hypercar performance limits, requiring careful energy deployment, tyre management and aerodynamic consistency across rapidly changing conditions.

Fuoco is an Italian former Formula One reserve and accomplished Ferrari works driver; Molina is a Spaniard with extensive GT and endurance experience; Nielsen is a Danish Ferrari specialist and former endurance champion. Their first overall Le Mans victory rewarded a partnership developed across two seasons of Hypercar competition.
