The 125 F1 was the first Formula 1 built by Ferrari. It started racing in 1948, before the F1 Championship was created. The evolved during the years until the debut in the F1 Champioship in Monaco in 1950 (included in this collection). This is the model raced by Raymond Sommers in the GP of Turin on september 5th, 1948, ehere rhe finshed 3rd.
Sommer was born in Mouzon, France, in 1906. Started racing in 1932 and in 1932 he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, driving 20 hours solo after his teammate, Luigi Chinetti, retired ill. He won again in 1933 driving an Alfa Romeo alongside Tazio Nuvolari. Hewas one of the stars of the "Golden Years of Racing" before WWII. He was in the Resistance and raced again from 1948 until september 1950 when he entered the Haute-Garonne Grand Prix[ in Cadours, France, where the steering failed and the car overturned at a corner. Sommer, wearing his traditional canvas helmet, was instantly killed.. The Chronicle of the Race
