The 1976 Italian Grand Prix contested over 52 laps, was the thirteenth round of the 1976 Formula One season. Ronnie Peterson took the March team's last victory in Formula One, and his only with the team. Ferrari driver Clay Regazzoni finished the race in second position and polesitter Jacques Laffite completed the podium for Ligier. This was the last time Ferrari entered more than two cars for a race. After Lauda’s accident at the GP or Germany, Regazzoni raced the only Ferrari for the Grand Prixs of Austria and , Netherland. Carlos Reutemann was hired from Brabham to race from the GP of Italy to take Lauda’s place. Surprisingly, only after 45 days from been almost dead,  Lauda with the burning scars still hurting, showed-up to race and finshed 4th. Ferrari had to prepare a third car for Reutemann who raced with the number 35 and finished 9th.
